Pura Vida Tofino came into existence out of our shared passion for surfing and adventure, and spending time together with friends and family in natural, beautiful places.

Our journey to Pura Vida Tofino began many years back with a group of friends enjoying weekend road trips to various west coast surf spots. The stated objective was always for the swell, but, truthfully, the enjoyment was as much about friendship and camaraderie as it was about the surf. In those hardier days, we would sleep in tents or cars, and we packed only the barest of necessities.

Over the years, our destinations remained the same, but our accommodations gradually evolved to budget motels and the occasional dilapidated beach shack, where heat and hot water were welcome luxuries after a long day of cold water surfing. There are many stories from those trips, all involving a lot of laughs, great adventures, and the occasional mishap.

In a moment of collective epiphany, we one day realized how we have always been drawn to the magic of Tofino. We also realized that owning a “surf shack” here together would ensure the continuance of the surf trips, as well as provide an amazing vacation experience for our families and friends. So, Pura Vida Tofino was born. Although a far cry from a “surf shack,” our vacation home is a place to enjoy nature, relationships and build lasting memories.

As owners of Pura Vida, we have all spent time in Costa Rica. There, the term “Pura Vida” is used to describe the Good Life, or the Pure Life. It is a term that is used in the presence of others as an immediate way to connect, and to allude to a shared set of beliefs and way of viewing the world. At Pura Vida Tofino, we have created a home that embodies this spirit of relaxation and enjoyment of the good life. With access to the awe-inspiring natural setting of Tofino and the west coast of Vancouver Island, we are sure that after a staying in our home, you will leave with the feeling of Pura Vida.
